The Background • In 2012 HCSC sent 12 students and 3 staff to China for 3 weeks in September 2013. • Overwhelming interest from student body and extremely positive feedback from 2012 delegation • HCSC will send a second delegation in September 2013 for 2 weeks • Investigate the cultural aspects of China • Investigate the academic program in Shanghai • Initially based at Utahloy International School – Gaunagzhou – 6 days. • Travel by air to Beijing, Xian and Shanghai.
Details of the Program • Visit China for approx 2 weeks in Sept 2013. • Leave Sat 14th Sept (last week of Term 3) • Return Sun 28th Sept (middle of Term 3 holidays) • Hotel accommodation (approx 3.5 to 4 star) will be included in the program • Airfare (international and domestic), Food & Admission prices to events are included.
Costs of the Program • Students would be expected to contribute $300 towards this program. • Visas and Travel Insurance ARE NOT included and would be paid for by the student. • Chinese VISA Application $98.50 • Travel Insurance $100 • Innoculationssuch as Hep A, Hep B, Typhoid and Malaria tablets are not inlcuded • Students will need a minimum of $500 AU to cover spending money.

Application Process • Students wishing to take part in the exchange must complete a written application. You will be given a pro-forma to base your application on e.g. why you should be selected, what involvement have you had with the school, your knowledge of Wyndham etc. • Located on the School website under international connections. www.hopcross.vic.edu.au • Shortlisted applicants will be notified of an interview time where they will sit a formal interview in front of a panel
For the Successful Applicant • Become one of the Student Leaders of HCSC. Uniform, Behaviour, Work Ethic etc. • If student behaviour or work ethic becomes a problem and a decision is made by the College to withdraw the placement, costs associated with transferring the airline ticket will be met by the family
For the Successful Applicant • Upon their return develop a presentation on their experiences and learning from this cultural exchange. Some of these will be presented after hours to different groups. • Continue to be a role model to other students at HCSC. • Ensure the nominated email account is checked regularly for updates.
Requirements • Passport – valid for at least 6 months after the return date • Visa to enter China - $98.50 Cost met by successful student. • Travel Insurance will be a necessary component for the trip. This cost is met by the successful student. Approx $100 • Uniform – Full Academic Winter Uniform. Blazers can be provided if necessary
Requirements • Understand that while away the chaperone teachers act as your ‘other parents’ • Ensure any classes missed due to presentations, being on the exchange are caught up on. (The College will endeavour to keep this to a minimum).
