  4. Works Wisdom Wise and Understanding Wisdom Shown by Behavior (3:13)Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. (excellent in its nature and characteristics) (manner of life, conduct) Meekness- It is a condition of the mind and heart which demonstrates gentleness not in weakness but power under control. It is a virtue born of strength of character. (The kind that only comes from God) • (intelligent, experienced, one having the knowledge of an expert)

  5. I. The Categories of Wisdom (James 3:15, 17) A. Earthly wisdom (James 3:15)

Earthly Wisdom (3:15) “But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised.” (1Co 2:14 NAS) “whose end is destruction, whose god is their appetite, and whose glory is in their shame, who set their minds on earthly things.” (Php 3:19 NAS) On earth, with earthly limitations Characterized by humanness, frailty, an unsanctified heart Generated by Satan’s forces Earthly Demonic Unspiritual Not the wisdom; from above

Pure Sincere Peaceable Gentle Impartial Biblical Wisdom Open to Reason Good Fruits Full of Mercy Biblical Wisdom Characterized (3:17) pure from carnality, chaste, spiritual integrity no disguise or mask peace-loving Consistent, unwavering equitable, fair, mild, patient-humility compliant, approachable Good deeds the fruit of righteousness Showing concern, Forgiving quickly

The Lie of Selfishness (3:14)But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts,do not boast and be false to the truth. selfish ambition bitter jealousy Boasting arrogance disproves the possession of wisdom . . . dissolves the manifestation of truth. The presence of selfishness ... Truth

  13. The Failure of Selfish Ambition (3:16)For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will bedisorder and every vile practice. insatiable lusts instability uneasiness jealousy selfish ambition chaos worthless works tumults disturbances

  16. Peace Prepares Righteousness (3:18)And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by thosewho make peace. Only those who act peaceably are entitled to peace. Only in peace is the fruit of righteousness found. Righteousness Peace
