5 My Grace is Sufficient
It seems that no matter what is right with our lives there is always a spoiler.
Boasting is necessary, though it is not profitable; but I will go on to visions and revelations of the Lord. I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago - whether in the body I do not know, or out of the body I do not know, God knows - such a man was caught up to the third heaven. (II Corinthians 12:1-2)
And I know how such a man - whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, God knows - was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which a man is not permitted to speak.(II Corinthians 12:3-4)
On behalf of such a man I will boast; but on my own behalf I will not boast, except in regard to my weaknesses. For if I do wish to boast I will not be foolish, for I will be speaking the truth; but I refrain from this, so that no one will credit me with more than he sees in me or hears from me.(II Corinthians 12:5-6)
Because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, for this reason, to keep me from exalting myself, there was given me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me - to keep me from exalting myself!(II Corinthians 12:7)
For unbelievers the ultimate goal is personal happiness and freedom from “thorns”
A Christian’s Response to Thorns • Prayer(I Cor 12:8)
A Christian’s Response to Thorns • Prayer • Submission(I Cor. 12:9)
Submission to thorn = StoicismSubmission to purpose of thorn = Faith
Unbelievers learn to live with their thorns Christians learn to glorify God despite their thorns
A Christian’s Response to Thorns • Prayer • Submission • Rise Above(I Cor. 12:10)
Enduring the thorns for Christ’s sake produces the same result that removing all the thorns produces contentment + strength.

Concerning this I implored the Lord three times that it might leave me. And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. (II Corinthians 12:8-9)
For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. (Romans 8:3-4)
