The NI Computer Industry • for exports by "high potential service industries“ • computing contributed highest level of exports60.3% (£94.4million) • increase of 17% over period 2003-2005 • employing approx. 14000 people • years 2006-2021, IT Industry forecast to grow at over 3 times rate of overall employment growth in NI.

YdoIT Careers Events - what are we' trying to achieve ? • Targeting year 11-12 (GCSE) … • inform, excite and enthuse • challenge perceptions • provide guidance • … and their teachers • inform influential subject teachers • educate careers teachers • inform about mismatch between GCSE and A Level syllabi, Computer Science at university and industry requirements.

  5. So far … • November 2006 • 12 schools • approx 200 pupils • approx 12 employers • November 2007 • 14 schools • approx 150 pupils • approx 10 employers - 20 'employer helpers'

Employment and Learning) • Organizing committee expanded to include: • ELB (LEA) ICT Advisers • Secondary School teachers • HEA-ICS • e-Skills • (in addition to industry federation and local universities).
