  1. First look at Gas Systems (preliminary)

  2. Content • RICH Gas System • STRAW Tracker Gas System • CEDAR

  3. RICH Gas System Assumed Requirements • Detector Volume: ~200m3 • Gas: 100% Neon (CO2, Air <1%. H2O < 1000 ppm) • Cost of one Fill ~ 27 kCHF • Operating Pressure: 1000 mbar (at constant density) • Max. over/under pressure (rel. to Atmosphere) +100 mbar and – 0 mbar (no vacuum pumping possible) • Operating Stability (2 options): • Closed gas volume (no gas replacement) • Regulate constant density [Pset = ro/MNe*R*(273.2+T)]

  4. A: during operation replenishing • of gas only (no recirculation) • B: during operation gas circulation • and O2 and H2O filtering RICH Gas System

  5. Straw Tracker Gas System Assumed Requirements • Detector Volume: 1.2 m3 • 4 Stations with 1’792 Straws/Station • Gas: CO2 / iC4H10 / CF4 (CF4 ≤10% and iC4H10 ~5%, mix non-flammable ) • Gas Flow: 0.16 cm3/min per Straw (68.8 l/h for full detector = 1 gas volume change in 16 hours) ( expected gas leak is ~1% of inlet flow) • Operating Pressure: ( 2 options) • Patm + 2 mbar • 1000 mbar absolute • Operating Mode (2 possibilities): • Single pass system (baseline) • Closed loop gas system ( to be considered only if gas flows increase)

  6. STRAW Tracker Distribution System • 1 Rack per station • Each Rack has 8 gas channels equipped with remote shut-off valves and • in/out flow metering (1 channel supplies 1 half view) • Each Channel supplies 14 sub-channels equipped with manual valves Pressure regulation

  7. STRAW Tracker Full System single pass system Mixing zone will be a flammable gas zone

  8. CEDAR Gas System Assumed Requirements • Detector Volume: ~1.1 m3 • Gas: 100% H2 (flammable gas) • Operating Pressure: 3.5 bara • Operating Stability (2 options): • Closed gas volume (no gas replacement) • Regulate constant Density [Pset = ro/MNe*R*(273.2+T)]

  9. CEDAR Gas System
