Research • BEFORE TENURE • Target research for acceptable journals (high-speed turnaround) • Time research to meet tenure requirements • Specialization required • Accepting lower risk projects • AFTER TENURE • Greater flexibility in choosing research topics • Less time pressure • More likely to be lead author • Mentoring junior faculty research

  4. SERVICE • BEFORE TENURE • Significant protection from university requirements • Minimal community interaction • AFTER TENURE • More committee involvement • Expectation for professional interaction • Leadership in national associations • Greater expectation for academic reviews
