What I have Learned • Applying for grants is not easy. • It can make you crazy. • Teamwork makes the dream work.
Do’s • Familiarize yourself with the university’s grant process. • Research, Research, Research! • Find a grant that can fund a project in which you are familiar with the subject matter. • Know the needs and wants of your library. • Reach out to the Program Manager of the awarding agency. • Make a timeline of due dates.
Do’s • Find examples of funded projects. • Create your project budget as early as possible. • Find published research to support your narrative. • Have someone proofread your work!!!!!!! • Triple check the application requirements. • Solicit letters of support from campus partners. • Turn in everything on time!!!!!!
Don’ts • Procrastinate!!! • Delegate everything. • Be unorganized. • Make unrealistic budgets. • Lack patience. • Wait until the last minute to turn in reports or updates. • Be afraid of failure!
Other Tips • Become a grant reviewer. • Look for opportunities to collaborate with campus and community partners. • Be optimistic. • Try, Try, Try again!
