  1. Situations of Work Scientists have a very specific definition of the term “work”. It involves both force and motion. You will investigate force and motion

  2. Situations of Work • Use the Work Station Cards to complete your investigation • Follow all directions and record information in your science journal • After you have completed all station cards, quickly create a poster diagramming the assigned work station – include any measurements (see instructions on station card) • Be prepared to present your “work” to poster to the class and explain if work has been done.

  11. Work and Forces in Living Things Write questions and write answers using sentences in your science notebook • What are some examples of force? • Does applying a force always cause a change in position? • Does a change in position always involve a force? • Does work always involve a force? • Does work always involve a change in position?

  12. Describe work using the terms “force” and “distance” in your science notebook. • “Work takes place in a situation where________________________________.

  13. Corn Seeds - Geotropism • Describe the direction in which the roots of the seeds grew. • Identify the forces to which the roots are responding. • Why do roots grow down?

  14. Potato Lab – turgor pressure I was in the grocery store yesterday, and as I was walking by the lettuce and carrots, the sprayers came on. Has this ever happened to you? Write the question and write an answer in your journals • Why do they need to spray water on their vegetables?
