Business Process Modeling • In the 1970s, Gane and Sarson developed Data Flow Diagrams to model business processes, modeling the major steps in carrying out a business activity along with the data necessary for each step. UML does not support Data Flow Diagrams, but the same purpose can be achieved with a UML Activity Diagram.
Activity Diagram Symbols These are the basic UML Activity Diagram symbols, as found in Visio. The Rake symbol (not in Visio), indicates that a process is expanded in another diagram.
