Reading Workshop • Readers will explore the world of fiction and nonfiction through guided and independent reading. They will also participate in literature study groups and class discussions to build comprehension. • Students will respond to self-selected books using a reader’s notebook and will use a daily log to keep track of reading done at home and at school.

Writing Workshop • We will explore many different types of writing this year. The kids have a writer’s notebook to record ideas and will participate in conferences, experience the steps of the writing process, share writing with peers, and publish finished pieces. • 6 Traits of good writing: Ideas and Content, Organization, Voice, Word Choice, Sentence Fluency, and Conventions.
Comet Time • We have intervention block from 8:15-9:00. Students will be split into groups based on their academic or instructional needs. • This intervention includes enrichment as well as specific, targeted academic support. • During this time, our Dyslexia Therapy, Student Success Intervention, ESL, AIM, Speech, third grade teachers , and more will be pulling students for direct small group instruction.
Attendance Information • Arrival 7:30-7:45 Tardy at 7:55 • Absences: Parent should call the office by 9:00 a.m. on the day of absence as well as send a signed note to school the day your child returns. • Dismissal: School day ends at 2:55 p.m. Children left after 3:10 will be brought to the office and contacts will be called.
Homework • Check agenda book and conduct folder daily for information. • Students complete one page of Skills Review math each day. • Students should be reading 25 minutes each night. • Please check e-mails/newsletter for project due dates and test dates.
