  2. Predicting Outcomes • Story details tell how characters talk, act, feel, and make choices • Readers can use these details and their own knowledge to predict what a character might do in a new situation.

  3. Suffixes –less and -ness • A suffix is added to the end of a base word. • A suffix adds meaning to a base word -less=without -ness=changes an adjective into a noun “condition of” the softness of the kitten’s fur

Syllables in a Dictionary • The dictionary entry shows the base form of a word, its part of speech, one or more definitions, and its pronunciations. • A dictionary entry shows how a word is divided into syllables (large dots usually show where the syllables break). Look up these words in a dictionary to see where they should be divided into syllables.

  14. Making Inferences • Readers use story details and their own experiences to make inferences. • We will be working together on AIMS prep for inferencing.

  15. Possessives • Add an apostrophe and s to a noun to show ownership. • If a plural noun ends in s, add only an apostrophe to make the possessive.

  16. Analogies • An analogy is a kind of comparison, in which one pair of words is compared to a second pair. • The words in the second pair are related to each other in the same way as the words in the first pair. Toe is to foot as finger is to __________. Practice Book pg. 144

  23. VCCV Pattern • Words with VCCV pattern can usually be divided into syllables between the two consonants. • A syllable that ends in a consonant is a closed syllable and has a short vowel sound.

  24. Homophones • Homophones are words that sound alike but have different spellings and meanings. I _____ the boats floating on the _____. Use these in a sentence: sale/sail, plain/plane, right/write
