History & Nature of Science • SWBAT: Identify how diverse people (past & present) have made important contributions to scientific innovations. (AZ Sci. Stds: S2.C1.P1) Astronomers Research and Electronic Presentation Project
Astronomers • We are going to be researching four important Astronomers: • Percival Lowell • Nicholaus Copernicus • Edwin Hubble • Galileo Galilei
To Do’s: • Listthe selected Astronomers and restate biographical information. • Discuss the major accomplishments of each of the selected Astronomers • Describe the technology used or designed by each of the Astronomers • Create a PowerPoint or Photo Story presentation (10 slides minimum, 3 minutes max).
Research: Using the Presentation rubric as your guide, answer the following for each of the four astronomers: • Who was this person? • What education / career did this person have? Other interesting information. • What did this person discover, design, and/or contribute to the field of Astronomy or Science in general?
Research: • Where did they live? & When were they alive? • (Who did they work with? Did they collaborate or base their theories on other Astronomers’ work?) • Were they interested in Astronomy? What motivated their work? • How did they make their contribution? Did they design, observe, calculate or all of the above to arrive at their discovery?
Presentation Preparation • Story board your ideas (use paper to layout your slides) • Sketch what you want your slide to look like. • Where is the text going and where are the pictures? • What is the purpose of the slide? • Stick to one idea per slide • 1-2 supporting images on each slide • Reference information should be at the bottom of each slide.
Final Presentation • DUE WEDNESDAY 2/20/13 • 10 slides minimum • Include a title slide • 3 minute maximum • Discuss your slides without ‘reading them’. • Put the most important information on the slides. • You can use note cards to remind you of what you need to say.
What is due? • Individually • Rubric w/ your name (one per person in group) • As a group • Group notes (information you have gathered) • Story Board layout • Presentation loaded on BB
