Serves as an educational consultant to state departments, county agencies, and school districts • Is nationally known for her presentations on instructional procedures and literacy instruction • Wrote textbook entitled Explicit Instruction: Effective and Efficient Instruction
Taught for 14 years before becoming an instructional supervisor until 2005 • Created a weekly column for TheClarksville Leaf-Chronicle which reviews children’s literature (it continues today under his wife’s direction) • Visits nearly 100 schools each year spreading his message that “Reading is Magic” • 2012 IRA speaker

Jim has been the Director of Marketing and Community Education at Highland Hospital since 1995 • He serves on 15 different non-profit Boards • He hopes that the Sad, Mad, Glad Book series will run wide and deep among our nation’s elementary-aged children • Chuck is an energetic, knowledgeable, and interactive speaker • He has given over 700 keynote, half, and full day seminars
Most recent book Passing the Music Down was chosen as a 2011 WV Children’s Choice book • Poetry has appeared in Cricket magazine • Reviews children’s books for The Sunday Gazette-Mail in West Virginia • Conducts writing workshops and author’s visits throughout the country
2012-2013 IRA President • Served on a number of IRA committees and special projects including the Teacher Education Task Force and Early Childhood Commission • Lifetime active member of the Louisiana Reading Association • Enjoyed 29 years in PK-12 school setting as a classroom teacher, elementary principal, and central office supervisor • Currently a member of the Louisiana Tech University Faculty • Work focuses on classroom literacy instruction • Believes that all children have a right to a quality education and it is teachers, not programs, that make a difference
