  3. 1. Many former liberals, blue-collar workers, ethnic voters and Southerners broke with the Democratic party to support Ronald Reagan (A Republican).

  4. 2. The 69 year old Reagan also attracted many older voters.

  5. 3. Reagan conservatives were against liberal social programs and government restrictions on business. They favored a strong military to stand against communism.

  6. 4. Reagan proposed a new economic program called “Reaganomics”.

  7. 5. Reagan predicted that income tax reductions would increase consumer spending and would also encourage investments, especially by the wealthy.

  8. 6. Supply side economics is the belief that the economy can best be stimulated by increasing the supply of goods rather than the demand.

  9. 7. Ending federal job training programs and cutting back the amount of federal money going into Medicare, food stamps, and education.

  24. 1. Reagan appointed Sandra Day O’Connor to the Supreme Court in 1981.

  25. 2. By appointing conservative justices, Reagan was able to cut affirmative action programs.
