  2. On your dry erase board, set up this table. In it, what do you know about Pearl Harbor? (Who, what, where, when, why)

American involvement in WWII before December 7, 1941 • Why the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor • The attack • Conspiracy theories • 4 MAIN Causes • Lend Lease Act – US supported Allies (Britain, China, later Soviet Union) with food and supplies, not soldiers b/c most Americans did not support going to war • J. invaded China (violated Open Door Policy) and the US cut off oil trade to J. • 12/7/41, Hawaii, surprise attack, 2400 Am casualties, devastated Pacific Fleet of US Navy • FDR knew about it and let it happen b/c New Deal wasn’t ending Great Dep but a war would, all evidence circumstantial • Militarism – countries still developing weapons • Alliances – Allied Powers, Axis Powers, non-aggression pact (Germany and USSR agree to divide Poland if USSR stays out of war) • Imperialism – countries acquiring territory • Nationalism – H. trying to unite G. speaking people.
