Via clinical trials, epidemiology, translational studies and collaboration to: (i) discover the pathways and processes linking obesity and physical inactivity to cardiovascular and metabolic disease (ii) understand the mechanisms underlying cardiovascular complications associated with diabetes, obesity, dyslipidaemia and renal disease (iii) explore the implications for the wider population - including groups defined by ethnicity, gender and deprivation (iv) use this knowledge to develop and target new therapies and lifestyle interventions to prevent and treat metabolic disease
