3. Introduction This is a webquest designed for students to learn the concept of volume. Students will apply the concept of volume to finding the volume of two specific shapes to start, rectangular prisms and cylinders. This webquest allows students to use the internet to practice and further their knowledge on the concept of volume. It also allows students to apply the concept of volume to real-life objects.
4. Learners Grade 9 or 10 - Geometry
Learners should know how to recognize various 3-dimensional shapes
When teaching this lesson, it will help the learners to better understand the material by showing them visuals (such as cereal boxes as rectangular prisms or soup cans as cylinders)

6. Process 1-2 class periods
Students should be placed in groups of 3-4 depending on class size, when exploring the visuals
Teacher must be aware of how to use the internet to implement this webquest
Teacher should allow students to have access to the formula, it would be too stressful on students to have to memorize all volume formulas
When choosing objects for students to compute volume of in class, be sure to get different shaped prisms and cylinders, but about the same size so it is difficult to tell which volume is greater

8. Evaluation A teacher would know if this webquest was successful by the students completion of the class examples after exploring the concepts on their own, and by how well the students do with the in-class activity.

10. Student Introdcution For homework, you will visit two specific websites to discover the concept of volume. You will be focusing on two specific 3-dimensional shapes, prisms and cylinders. You will follow the student discovery guide, and as you are searching these websites, you will fill in your student discovery guide worksheet. This will introduce you to the formulas, and allow you to try a few examples involving the new formulas. The next day in class, you will complete some more challenging volume problems, and compute the volume of a few real-life objects.

12. Student Process For homework, you will visit two specific websites to explore the concepts of volume of prisms and cylinders
You will fill out your student discovery guide, while exploring the websites
Once you complete the student discovery guide, you will complete some more challenging volume problems in class the next day
During that class period, you will also split into groups of 4, and compute the volumes of real life objects (1 group has a small soup can, 1 group has a tuna can, 1 group has a fruit roll up box, the other group has a different shaped fruit roll up box)
Before computing the volumes of these objects, you will make a hypothesis as to which cylinder has a greater volume, and which prism has a greater volume
13. Student Conclusion To conclude this lesson, I will go over the answers to the volume of the four objects. I will also give you a homework sheet to get more practice on the volume of prisms and cylinders.
