Communication • Weekly- “Keeping In Touch”-should come home/be emailed on Mondays • Reading Total Update Every Monday!  • Daily- Assignment Notebooks and Take Home Folders Miss Baumgartner and I sign the students out each day. Homework only should be listed. • GREEN, YELLOW or REDmarked daily in assignment notebook • SOCS- online website www.lisle202.org

  3. Tour of Your Desk • Letter from your child • Form for you to respond • Parent/ Student Handbook and AUP Please sign and return- Thank You! • Evaluation of Open House • 4th Grade Information Packet

Reading Assessments • MAP • Running Records • STAR Test- AR Levels (see packet) • AIMS Web Fluency Test Reading Levels • Independent Level Self selected books Accelerated Reader • Instructional Level Small Group Reading Instruction • Frustration Level Use the “5 Finger” Test to avoid this level. All of these assessments give me information that helps create and adjust for small group instruction.

  5. Word Work • Words Their Way • Differentiated Groups • New List on Monday • Daily Sorts or Games to practice words • Test on Friday • Building Vocabulary • New words on Monday • Focus is on meanings of word roots • Assessments after every 5 units • Frayer Models

  6. Writing • Lucy Calkins Writing Program

  7. Shared Reading • Program called “Making Meaning” • Builds a community of readers • Frequent opportunities for students to discuss ideas about what they are reading with other students • Daily Mini Lessons come from this program or other resources • About 30 minutes of time to read each day.

  8. While the students are reading and writing independently, what does the teacher do? • Individual Conferring • Small Strategy Groups • Guided Reading/Writing Groups

  9. Reading Every Day is the Key! How do you get better at reading? It boils down to a simple, two-part formula: • The more you read, the better you get at it; the better you get at it, the more you like it; and the more you like it, the more you do it. • And the more you read, the more you know; and the more you know, the smarter you grow. -Jim Trelease • 20-30 minutes of SSR here at school each day • 15 minutes of reading at home- Thank You!
