The Singles Encounter (SE) is a spirit-filled weekend retreat sponsored by the Singles Ministry of the Salt & Light for Christ Community. It focuses on the special and unique needs of single Catholic men and women with the purpose of helping the participants discover a stronger faith in themselves and in others, as well as in God and community. The goals of the weekend are: To help participants strengthen their faith in God; to find peace with themselves; and to learn to truly love those around them. What happens in a SE Weekend? The Singles Encounter is a work and fun weekend designed to bring about a deeper understanding of yourself as a unique individual created by God in His own likeness and image. The retreat will include a blend of teachings, life witnessing from fellow singles, presentations, time for individual reflection, dialogue and group discussions. Under the guidance of a Spiritual Director, the weekend is led by a number of SE graduates. In talks delivered over the course of the weekend, these graduates draw from their life experiences and their relationship with God to speak of our need for God and for others, and to testify to the transforming power of Jesus Christ. Before and after each talk, participants have the opportunity to reflect, share and pray. Will I sit and pray all throughout this retreat? Prayer and individual reflection will be an important part of the retreat. Time will also be spent socializing, meeting new friends, and renewing your Catholic faith thru the activities during the SE weekend. “I am not a cry baby and it takes a lot for me to cry but I was just so touched that for the first time during the encounter I gave in to my emotions.” Jillian Revadulla SE # 25 Why should I go on a retreat? It might just be the best thing you will ever do … no joke! Not only does the SE weekend offer a chance to look at your relationship with God, it’s a time to relax, have fun, meet people and unload the pressures and stress in your life. It really is a great opportunity and a life-changing experience. Who can attend the SE? All single Catholic young men and women, never been married, at least 21 years old. This is something for everyone regardless of age or status in life. How much does the weekend cost? The registration fee is P1500.00 per person. This covers the cost of board and lodging (dorm-type) for 2 nights including meals, snacks and seminar materials. The weekend begins with registration on Friday afternoon (September 21) at 5 pm and ends on Sunday around 4 pm (September 23).
