  2. Parts of a wave • CREST - The highest part of the wave • TROUGH - The lowest part of the wave

  3. What determines a waves size • The speed of the wind blowing on the wave • Fetch-how long wind blows across open water

  4. Sidney`s weird fact about waves • Believe it or not waves start off as ripples • The biggest wave on record occurred in Lituya Bay on the southern coast of Alaska in 1958. An earthquake measuring 8.3 on the Richter scale hit the area and shook loose an estimated 40 million cubic yards of dirt and glacier from a mountainside at the head of the bay. When the debris hit the water, a massive 1,720-foot wave was created and washed over the headland.

  5. What are Tides • A Tide can be caused by the gravitational of the moon • The attraction of the moon is far greater than the attraction of the sun due to the close proximity of the earth and the moon. • Daily changes in the oceans surface

  6. Tsunamis are seismic sea wave formed by earthquakes on ocean floors volcanic eruptions earthquakes underwater explosions large meteorite impacts nuclear weapons testing in seas mass movements above or under water What Are Tsunamis and what are there causes
