Future Directions: Personal Monitoring of Ozone and Black Carbon 2B Tech POM for Ozone AethLabs microAeth For Black Carbon • Loan ozone and BC personal monitors to schools for 3-4 weeks each • Students design and conduct their own monitoring experiments
Advantages of Personal Monitoringvs. Fixed Stations • Lower cost because equipment is shared • More hands-on experience by more students • Fewer installation/internet connection problems • No long-term maintenance • Frequent calibration (upon every exchange) • Students design and execute their own experiments, e.g. • Drive through a tunnel • Climb a mountain • Measure near and distant from industrial plants • Compare urban and rural areas • Compare variations in geographic distribution of a primary (BC) and secondary pollutant (ozone) • Opportunity to explore environmental justice issues
Funding Methods • Educational Grants • Corporate Donations • Individual Donations • Self Funded • Greenfundraiser Setup Costs Ozone Project $4,500 Black Carbon $600 CO2 (Future) $2,500
