  3. Why? Aerospace & Defense Industry Aging Workforce Anticipated Skill Gaps Flat Supply; Growing Demand National Security Industrial Base Security Clearances Innovation, Economic Growth, & Competitiveness

Purpose • Enhance and expand the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) future workforce by: • Fostering regional and statewide communication, • Developing operational concepts for collaboration, • Identifying opportunities for multi-industry collaboration and alignment to advance STEM education and cultivate the 21st century workforce • Provide guidance and resources for other states looking to establish or grow a STEM network

Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC) • 13th annual competition • 2014 = 4,000 students in 48 states • 60,000 students have participated since 2003 • Survey of past participants gave encouraging findings • 96% plan to complete a college degree and 68% also expect to attend graduate or professional school • 71% plan to pursue a career directly related to STEM • 42% very likely to pursue a career in aeronautic/aerospace engineering TARC has become AIA’s model STEM program
