SEXISM: A DEFINITION • Sexism is: • any attitude, action, or institutional structure • which subordinates and subjugatesa person or group because of gender (sex). • The components of sexism are forms of stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination. Where do we see these in our society?
SEXISM: A DIFFERENT ANGLE Sexism is: • the subordination of one sex, usually female, • based on:the assumed superiority of the othersex. Sexism directed at women has three components: • negative attitudes toward women; • Stereotypicalbeliefs that reinforce, complement, or justify theattitudes (3) discrimination-acts that exclude,distance, or keep women separate
