PHYSICS RESEARCH UNIVERSITY PROGRAM-UGPS • Implement UGPS recommendations: Increase funding by 1% of overall HEP Maintain groups, research scientists as appropriate Reverse decline of theory students, phenomenology Reverse decline of technical infrastructure Fund mid-scale experiments Use SAG’s/P5 to coordinate projects early Fund foreign travel, computing Form University Grants Program Committee
Physics Research University Program-COV • Implement COV recommendations: -Fill vacant staff positions. Use search committees. -Initiate data bases. Update existing info. (staff need) -Globally optimize balance between FNAL, universities, labs -Increase OJI’s in number by increasing funds -Enforce 10 page/PI limit on new and renewal proposals -Use external consultants on new/renewal site visits -Provide reviewers guidance for uniformity
