What is the NSS? Emergency management tool supporting ESF #6 - NRF Web-based data system: https://nss.communityos.org System contains individual shelter listings w/ info on capacity, shelter population, available facilities, site locations, and more User Name/Password protected…application and training required for access Four user levels: 1-view only: data and reports; 2-view and export; 3- view, export, add & edit shelters; 4- Administrator Free to State/Tribal/Local users w/ no ongoing maintenance or licensing fees
NSS Value: Can support day-to-day shelter management in response to ANY size disaster/emergency Can allow users to manage & receive shelter data in a consistent and reliable manner Can aid in decision making, requests for a declaration, and recovery processes Can support matching available shelter resources with needs of affected area Can assist in coordinating evacuation and relocation efforts Can access, organize, & report data as disaster situations evolve Reports exported in formats that allow for integration into E-TEAM

Eligibility for NSS Access Must be employee or volunteer of an agency with a primary or support role in management or coordination of shelter activities in your jurisdiction, and have concurrence of State/Tribal/Local EMA (as appropriate to your jurisdiction). Must have a demonstrated business need for access Complete required NSS training, and submit request using NSS User Access Request Form Access requests MUST be approved by EMA in your jurisdiction, and are reviewed for concurrence by FEMA before NSS accounts are Activated. The process is conducted in coordination with your FEMA Regional NSS POC
Required NSS Training Level 1 & 2 Required: NSS Briefing (conducted by ADEM) Level 3 Required: NSS Briefing (conducted by ADEM) NSS Facilitated Training (onsite delivery by ADEM) Level 4 Comply with Level 3 as described above, and obtain Level 4 Briefing from ADEM
