I am enjoying myself, deciding at every moment what I want to do, and, thanks to this solitude, I know myself... Something truly fundamental for life

4. Don’t fall into the trap of your father, who thinks he is old because he has seventy years of age, forgetting that Moses directed the Exodus at eighty and Rubinstein used to interpret Chopin like no one else when he was ninety, to quote just two well-known cases.

5. You are not depressed, you are distracted. That is why you think you lost something, but that is impossible, because all you have was given to you. You did not make a single hair of your head, therefore you own nothing. Besides, life does not take anything from you: it frees you from things... It makes you lighter so you can fly higher, and reach your fullness. From the cradle to the tomb it is all a school; that is why, what you call problems, are only lessons. You did not lose anyone: The one who died, simply went ahead of us, because there is where we all go. And, the best of that person, love, continues alive in your heart.

6. There is no death... only change. And at the other side you have wonderful people waiting for you: Gandhi, Michel Angelo, Whitman, Saint Augustin, Mother Teresa, your granfather and my mother, who believed that poverty was closer to love, because money distracts us with too many things; and it makes us distant, by taking away our trust.

7. Do only what you love and you will be happy. Whoever does what he loves is happily condemned to success, which will arrive in its good time; because what must be will be, and will arrive naturally. Do nothing out of obligation or compromise, only out of love. Then you will have fullness, and in this fullness all is possible and without effort, because it is the natural force of life that moves you; the force that raised me when the plane fell with my wife and daughter in it; that kept me alive when the doctors diagnosed for me three or four months of life, at most.

8. God put you in charge of a human being, and that is yourself. You have to make yourself free and happy. Then you will be able to share a better life with others. Remember : “Love your neighbor like yourself". Find reconciliation with yourself, look at the mirror and think that this creature you are seeing is God’s work; and decide, right now, to be happy, because happiness is an acquisition.

9. Moreover, happiness is not a right, but a duty; because if you are not happy, you are making the whole neighborhood unhappy. One man alone who did not have talent nor courage to live, ordered the death of millions of jewish brothers.

10. There are so many things to enjoy and our sojourn on earth is so short, that suffering is a waste of time. To enjoy ourselves we have the snow of Winter and the flowers of Spring, Belgian chocolate, French baguetes, Mexican tacos, Chilean wine, the seas and the rivers, Brazilian soccer, The Thousand and one Nights, the Divine Comedy, the Quijote, Pedro Páramo, the boleros of Manzanero and the poetry of Whitman; the music of Mahler, Mozart, Chopin, Beethoven; the paintings of Caravaggio, Rembrandt, Velázquez, Picasso and Tamayo, among so many other marvels.

11. And if you have cancer or AIDS, two things can happen and both are good: if it wins, it will free you from this body that can be so uncomfortable (I am hungry, cold, sleepy, I have desires, I am right, I doubt)... And if you win, you will be more humble, more grateful for it, easier to make happy, free from the awful weight of guilt, responsability and pride, ready to live each and every instant in all its depth, as it should be.

12. You are not depressed; you are unoccupied Help the child that needs you, that child that will be your son’s associate. Help the old and the young will help you when you will be one. Besides, service is sure happiness, like enjoying nature and taking care of it for those who will come after. Give without measure and you will be given without measure as well. Love until you become like what you love; more still, until you are transformed into love itself. And do not let yourself be brought to confusion by a few homicides or suicides..

13. Goodness is the greater part, but it is not appreciated because it is silent. A bomb makes more noise than a caress, but for every bomb that destroys, there are millions of caresses that feed life. It‘s worth, isn’t it?. If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be in it. If God had a wallet, your picture would be in it too. God sends you flowers every Spring. God gives you a dawn every morning. Every time you want to talk, God listens; God can live in any part of the Universe, but chose your heart. Welcome the presence, my friend, God is crazy for you!

14. Send this to every beautiful person you want blessed. God did not promise days without pain, laughter without sadness, sun without rain; God simply promised strength for each day, consolation for the tears, and light for the journey. “When life will give you a thousand reasons to cry, show it that you have one thousand and one reasons to smile
