  1. Rosa Parks Presented by Ms.Korkoneas

  2. Description On December 1, 1955, in Montgomery, Alabama, Parks refused to obey bus driver James F. Blake's order that she give up her seat to make room for a white passenger.

  3. Biography http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8A9gvb5Fh0

  4. Accomplishments • After she was arrested, it sparked a bus boycott for over 300 days. • A year later, the Supreme Court –changed the rules on the bus on the basis of civil rights. • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15p5HB-FpjI

  5. How would I feel … • Racism in any form is unacceptable. If I was growing up in America in the 50s and I was ‘coloured’ I would always have to give up my seat for the ‘whites’. I would just do it because I would not know any different. • It was what was expected. Changing people’s perceptions is very difficult unless there is feeling of change amongst all people.

  6. Relevance to Today • Without, Rosa Parks stating, ‘I don’t want to move, my feet hurt’ who knows what America would look like today! • It sparked off the civil rights movement and led to the rise of Martin Luther King.

  7. Last note… • Music clip – rosa parks • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMI2pxhID4M
