Kitsap County 4-H Why should I do a Record Book? • It is a historical record of your plans, experiences, successes, mistakes, friendships, & fun. • It is a useful tool to use when making decisions for future projects. • It helps you develop life long writing and record keeping skills. • Use it when you are writing award applications, scholarship applications & job resumes.

Kitsap County 4-H 10 Steps to the CO934 Record Book in Kitsap County • Collect supplies • Put book together • Fill in the Calendar • Do your Project Record • Keep a Financial Record or Add Sheet • Write your Journal • Do your Project Highlights • Fill in the Permanent Record • Finishing touches • Turn it into County Fair
1. Collect supplies • 3 ring binder • Tabs - a set of 5 -- or more if the member is in multiple projects. • Forms • Record book • Permanent Record Book • Financial Record or Add sheet • Ask your leader which form you need. • Year End Agreement – get this from your leader Kitsap County 4-H
2. Put your book together • Fill in your Cover Page • Label your Tabs • Calendar • My 4-H Project: Rabbits, Horses, etc. • Permanent Record • 4-H Story • 4-H Year Agreement Kitsap County 4-H
3. Fill in the Calendar • Fill in Calendar dates for the whole year • Get dates from your leader, the internet or other sources • Once an event occurs mark it X for attended or O for not attended Kitsap County 4-H
4. Do your Project Record • Discuss goals with your leader & parents • Your age & number of years in the project must be considered • Be specific and detailed • Get it signed at the beginning of the year Kitsap County 4-H
5. Keep a Financial Summary or Add Sheet • Determine which form you will need to use • Fill in your beginning inventory • Keep track of all of your expenses • Finish your calculations • Update your book before turning it in for year end awards Kitsap County 4-H
Kitsap County 4-H 6. Write your Journal • Detail is important • What did you do? • What did you learn? • What did you enjoy, or not? • How much did it cost?
7. Do your Project Highlights • This page reflects what was planned in your Project Record • What problems or success did you have with what you planned for this 4-H year? Kitsap County 4-H
8. Permanent Record • Every year you are in 4-H must be included • Fill in every section • When no activities for a section have been completed write N/A or none Kitsap County 4-H
9. Finishing Touches • Photographs • Get them from your parents, leaders or friends • My 4-H story • You must have all of the required parts • Tell the reader how 4-H impacted your life Kitsap County 4-H
