3. Project Introduction For this paper, I was asked to choose a past assignment to present on Wetpaint. This site displayed my paper on the controversy that music artists, Rihanna and Eminem, created. Based on the lyrics and the violence in the music video, there has been debate over the harmful effects of teenagers outlooks on social relationships with others. Using the Wetpaint site, I added the music video and posted pictures that displayed the topics I discussed on my page. 4. My Writing Process Topic Choice: I learned about this song and the controversy it provoked from my Communications class. I wanted to look into it and research the effects that these songs may have on a teenage audience. Research: My research consisted of focus groups that were used to determine how teenage viewers interpret and respond to the lyrics and the music video. I took the opinions of five men and five women who watched the music video and read the lyrics. They answered a survey of questions appropriate to the topic at hand. 5. Writing Process Continued My drafts consisted of an introduction, methodology, data and a discussion. After completing my first and second drafts , Professor Schwind recommended me to choose this assignment for the Wetpaint project, because I could use my topic to post the music video and specific pictures. 6. Challenges My biggest challenges were creating concise surveys to get specific outcomes for my paper. I had to make sure my questions did not provoke any biases. Then I had to come to a conclusion after analyzing the opinions and describe how their outlooks relate to how teenagers interpret this video. Then posting this paper as a Wetpaint project was difficult, because I’ve never used this site before. 7. What I Learned In my situation, the results of the questions conclude that this video can be seen as more of an awareness approach to their audiences. The song, “I Love the Way you Lie,” will make viewers realize the existence of these types of relationships and how destructive they are on people. Although the video contains some disturbing behavior, there is so much out in the media today that could have a larger effect on the public than a music video. It ultimately makes teenagers second guess this violent behavior to then hopefully create a message of realization of these unhealthy and damaging relationships.
