  1. Do Now: Write 5 sentences about what happened (how you felt, what you did, where you went) yesterday. Do not write about any other day but yesterday.

  2. What is proper scientific inquiry? What is pseudoscience? • Scientific Inquiry: • What’s the question you want to learn more about? • Research the topic • Form a hypothesis • Conduct an experiment. (IV, DV, controls, blind experiment, randomized) • Analyze your results • Form a conclusion/publish results Pseudoscience: Belief or process that masquerades as science in an attempt to claim legitimacy; lack of controlled experiments

  3. How is astronomy different from astrology? • With your partner, come up with definitions of each field. Think about the goals each field has, and the methods or tools they both use.

  4. How is astronomy different from astrology? • Astronomy – A natural science that studies celestial objects and phenomena (stars, planets, galaxies, etc), outside the Earth’s atmosphere. • Astrology– A belief system that attempts to predict human activity based on the relative position of celestial bodies compared to Earth.

  5. Evaluate: Do horoscope predictions accurately align with our feelings? • What is a daily horoscope? Where can you find it? • Write down your prediction: Will the horoscope predictions accurately align (overall) with the classes feelings (so there may be some inaccurate predictions but for the most part will it be accurate) • Let’s test and see! • Figure out which sign you are (just keep that in mind for later) • You will read through the list of daily horoscopes from yesterday. Pick one that best aligns with your feelings yesterday. These are not in order of the months, so you will not know which horoscope is which. • Put a star next to the one that matches your feelings. When told to, move to the index card whose number matches the prediction you chose (i.e. If you chose 5, move to index card 5).

  6. Horoscope dates • Aries: Mar 21-Apr 20 • Taurus: Apr 21- May 21 • Gemini: May 22-Jun 22 • Caner: Jun 23-July 23 • Leo: July 24-Aug 23 • Virgo: Aug: 24-Sep 23 • Libra: Sep 24-Oct 23 • Scorpio: Oct 24-Nov 22 • Sagittarius: Nov 23-Dec 22 • Capricorn: Dec 23-Jan 19 • Aquarius: Jan 20-Feb 19 • Pisces :Feb 20-Mar 20

  7. Follow up: • What steps of astrology followed the scientific inquiry? Use our experiment to back up your ideas. • Do you think astrology is a pseudoscience?
