about • Marc Chagall • Paris through the window • Oil on canvas • Done in 1913
Description • Chagall’s painting shows his view of Paris. • I see a cat, three men, a woman, buildings, an upside-down train, and the Effie tower. • Chagall has a large variety of shapes, lines, color, value, form, and space. • Chagall uses oils on canvas and creates a dream like quality.
analysis • The focal point in this painting is the white stripe. • The balance is asymmetrical an his painting crates a dreamlike mood. • The proportion is unusual because the man next to the tower is way bigger tan he should be. • A pattern appears in the building’s windows. • The movement is the white stripe.
Interpretation • The two faced man might represent a feeling Chagall might feel. • Chagall might have wanted to make you feel like you are looking into this fantasy world. • No other experience reminds me of this painting.
judgment • I is a success because Chagall creates this dream like view of Paris. • This painting is very unique ,because most artist usually paint realistically but this painting is dream like. • I think Marc could have improved his work by choosing a back ground with a variety of colors to crate a more dream like quality.
