Night Moves. UNIT 2. WINDY NIGHTS. Rumbling in the chimneys, Rattling at the doors, Round the roofs and round the roads The rude wind roars; Raging through the darkness, Raving through the trees, Racing off again across The great grey seas. WINTER DARK. Winter dark comes early

Night Moves UNIT 2
WINDY NIGHTS Rumbling in the chimneys, Rattling at the doors, Round the roofs and round the roads The rude wind roars; Raging through the darkness, Raving through the trees, Racing off again across The great grey seas.
WINTER DARK Winter dark comes early Mixing afternoon And night. Soon There’s a comma of a moon, And each street light Along the way Puts its period To the end of day. Now A neon sign Punctuates the dark With a bright Blinking Breathless Exclamation mark!
THE FALLING STAR I saw a star slide down the sky, Blinding the north as it went by, Too burning and too quickly to hold, Too lovely to be bought or sold, Good only to make wishes on And then forever to be gone.
GENIUS “Sis! Wake up!” I whisper In the middle of the night. Urgently I shake her till she switches on the light. The spiral notebook in my hand provides her quick relief. It tells her there’s no danger of a break-in by a thief. “Okay,” she says, then props herself up vertically in bed. She nods for me to read my work. I cough, then forge ahead. The last verse of my poem leaves her silent as a mouse I worry till she says, “We have a genius in the house.”
DREAMS Hold fast to dreams For if dreams die Life is a broken-winged bird That cannot fly. Hold fast to dreams For when dream go Life is a barren field Frozen with snow.
