Health & Social Care – BTEC First Award in Health and Social care Single = 1 GCSE equivalents 3 periods a week
How is the course organised? All units except one are coursework based There is a paper based assessment during the course – there are opportunities to resit. Coursework is assessed by your tutors and then checked by the exam board.
What is it about?: Communication Learning how to break down communication How do you communicate with someone who has impaired hearing. Learn how to overcome those barriers
Health & Social Care Promoting Health and Well Being Understanding about the importance of staying healthy as a young person. Identifying risks of smoking, drugs, excessive drinking and underage sex. Progression to Level 3 Health and Social Care as part of your BTEC L3/A levels, or NVQ working in the placement 2 days a week

What will you learn? • Patterns of Child Development 0- 7 years • Teaching children through play • How children develop socially and emotionally • Looking at the key people who influence them from 0 – 7years • Equal opportunities during child development.
How do you learn? • Through play, lots of creative activities, watching clips of children playing, going to nurseries and watching children play. Visit to virtual baby centre.
Progression at 6th form • Level 3 course which will give you a professional qualification to work within the Child care profession. • Possible careers; Nursery nurse/manager • Attracts points to go to University and follow the career of your choice.

Hair & Beauty Studies Level 2 Certificate Are you interested in working in the hair and beauty sector? Learn about presenting a professional image, styling hair, shampooing and conditioning, applying make-up and nail art
Level 2 City & Guilds • This qualification teaches you how to style hair, care for hair, we have a properly equipped salon so you wash hair, blow dry it and style it in the lesson. • You are also learning about make-up and nails. • Excellent hairdressers can earn £31,000 per year.
