  1. When you come in… • Copy the word of the day. • Turn in your current events if you didn’t on Friday.

  2. MLK/Twain timed writing expectations • In your paper, you should have: • A controlling idea, or thesis that addresses the prompt • Comparison AND a contrast of HOW each of the two authors craft his argument • Focus of the authors’ argument is to inspire their audience to action • Discussion of audience • Discussion of appeals (group work) • Discussion of rhetorical strategies (group work)

  3. OER practice • Copy the following at the top of a sheet of paper, then answer: • In his "I Have a Dream" speech, what does Dr. King want his audience to do as a result of listening? Support your answer with evidence from the text. • OER format: one sentence answer, one sentence support

  4. On the same paper, Copy the following terms: • personification, simile, repetition, metaphor, juxtaposition, diacope, imagery, allusion, ethos, logos, pathos, tone • Jot down a brief definition for each.
