Goal Determine the time to heat a given strip of FEP with heat gun to melting temperature as to bond with strip of ePTFE

Assumptions • Air jet is circular • Uniform Temperature on FEP surface • FEP as plane-surface • FEP insulated by ePTFE
Analysis T(t)=573 K Ti=300 K T∞=650 K
Results To reach the desired temperature of 573 K, the FEP requires .76 sec in the hot air stream produced by the heat gun.
Results Because the ePTFE was assumed a perfect insulator, the actual time required to reach the desired temperature would be increased.
