The 8th Amendment. By: William Parciak and Adam Samok. Meaning. Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted. You can’t give people extreme bail You can’t give heavy punishment . Unusual Punishment.

  2. Meaning • Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted. • You can’t give people extreme bail • You can’t give heavy punishment

  3. Unusual Punishment • Punishment deemed too cruel for the law breakers • Torture • Degradation • Punishment too excessive for the crime committed • A man steals a gumball and he gets he arm cut off

  4. Death penalty • Many people are against it • Furman V. Georgia • Death Penalty was cruel and unusual. • Being used inconsistently • Gregg V. Georgia • Death Penalty was chosen as sentence • 8th Amendment was more concerned with tourture

  5. Excessive Bail • Bail that is more expensive than it should be • dependant on the crime commited • bail can be very expensive anyway • Man charged $50,000 bail for stealing a gumball

  6. US vs Salerno • Crime boss, and his captain • Arrested for committing racketeering • Stated that no bail was really an infinite amount of money
