  1. WE ARE PHILUI Faculty/Staff Giving Program • PHIL is short for philanthropy. • Philanthropy affects all of us on this campus. • WE ARE PHIL.

  2. WE ARE PHILUI Faculty/Staff Giving Program • Every gift counts • Any amount • Any fund within the UI Foundation • (More than 4,000 funds to choose from)

  3. PHIL WAS HERE:SPI and PHIL’S DAY • The PHIL concept (PHIL WAS HERE) was created in 2009 for our Student Philanthropy Initiative (SPI) to promote philanthropy awareness among UI students. • PHIL and Phil’s Day have been well received by faculty and staff, too. • WE ARE PHIL is a new take on PHIL, designed with you in mind. • Lends itself well to ongoing/future collaboration with SPI on campus communications and events.

  4. What is the UI Foundation? • The preferred channel for private contributions to the University of Iowa. • A nonprofit IRC Sec. 501(c)(3) organization. • We fundraise according to priorities set by the university president in consultation with deans, directors, and other campus leaders. • Organized in 1956 to help the university meet needs beyond those provided for by state support, and to reach new levels of distinction by generating significant private gift support.

  5. Why is faculty and staff giving so important? • Our contributions provide resources that help ensure the UI’s ongoing excellence—which benefits: • Students • Our community • The state of Iowa • The world • Ourselves / Each other

  6. Why is faculty and staff giving so important? • Faculty and staff investment in the UI sends a powerful message to those outside the university. • It announces to alumni, friends, corporations, foundations, public officials, and community partners that we support the UI and feel it is worthy of their support, too.
