What did we learn? • Remarkable statements • Intriguing questions • Ideas and suggestions • Agenda for action
Remarkable statements • ‘At Roffey Park we are looking for people who are extremely thirsty for learning about themselves’ • ‘if you are successful in managing your faculty, I congratulate you’ • ‘only when faculty has tenure, we want to get after them…and guide them’ • ‘if I don’t enter the classroom without being scared, that is the moment I will give up this job’
Intriguing questions • ‘What (e)-Business model will appear successful for executive education in the future?’ • ‘Do business schools need intermediaries for e-learning?’ • ‘How to encourage faculty to participate in executive programs and to take up new developments?’ • ‘How to organise the continuing dialogue with the corporate world?’
Ideas and suggestions On e-learning • Experiences • Students do not like to be lectured • Students like to do things and to see results from their work; they rather do than study • Students are over burdened with study work • It adds to prestige; students like the technology.
Ideas and suggestions On e-learning • Reasons for reluctant faculty • Often faculty is not supported in working with new technology • Incentives for faculty to work with new technology are absent • Senior faculty is unwilling to change old behavior and invest in new curriculum (again no or little resources from faculty available) • For faculty there is little to win: new curriculum is more time consuming (requires daily attention to student questions).
Ideas and suggestions Conclusions: • We need to experiment with this new technology... we cannot go around it… • a vision on how faculty needs to develop for the future is required… • E-learning should support needs of faculty for professional development... • Apart from hardware, significant investments in humanware are required!
Ideas and suggestions On faculty development • Organize Orientation Day for New Faculty • Provide personal coaching for young and senior faculty • Provide incentives at individual and group level Reward system of universities traditionally not in favour of executive education
Agenda for action • Continue dialogue with corporate world • Professional development • Innovation beyond e-learning in MD • Business models for EE in the future
