Hunters & Gatherers • United in bands or small groups • Caught and ate fish, turtles, birds and small rodents • Technology was use of knowledge and skills • Many large animals are now extinct • Experience taught them witch animals and plants could be eating without any unpleasant consequences
Farmers and Herders • Early people began to domesticate animals, or tame them for human use • Many early people who raised livestock were nomads , or people with no settled homes • Raising of their domesticated animals and plants for use by people known as agriculture • Early farmers used a method slash and burn to make their soil richer
Cities • Ur was settled before 3000 B.C. • The people of Ur built a ziggurat • In CatalHuyuk 6000 may have lived in this ancient village • Jericho was an important trading center
What We learned in this chapter • We learned that trading was important to people. Early people used slash and burn to make there crops grow. On the top of the ziggurat was a temple and people thought the higher it was the closer they were to their god. Usually they used a stick and rocks to dig holes for the crops, until they made the plow. They used the Walls of Jerico to protect there goods and protect it from flooding them.
