  1. Coaching relationships:Taking action

  2. Research question How to generate an effective relationship between a teacher and a coach to impact student learning?

  3. Research Main findings Effective coaching requires positive relationship among coach and teacher Identified three roles of coaches: collaboration, consultation and coaching Teachers and coaches can take steps to improve the relationship and the effectiveness of their work Gap in research: experiences of teachers with bad experiences with coaching

  4. Speaking of gaps… FAQ What do you wonder about the coaching experience?

  5. Our vision Our goal is to develop ways to support the relationship among teachers and coaches in a way that benefits student learning. Our hopes are for our action research project to be of benefit for all teachers involved in Saskatchewan Rivers School Division coaching initiatives.

  6. Context Saskatchewan Rivers School Division already has coaches. Based on personal experience and research we believe strengthening the coach-teacher relationship will benefit students.

  7. Challenges Teachers might have a lack of knowledge about why they are getting a coach or how the process works. A large number of teachers are working with coaches and resources are limited. Teachers and coaches have limited opportunity to meet. Teachers have different learning styles and preferences.

  8. Resources and Partnerships Integrated Learning Department of Saskatchewan Rivers School Division SRSD web hosting services School division leadership

  9. Action Plan • Develop a website to support building positive relationships among teachers and division learning coaches. • Use the website to get feedback on the coaching process. This information will help inform division coaches as they strive to answer the research question: • Refine and maintain the website • Investigate the role that in-school coaches working through the Dreamcatcher Project can play in this website. • At the end of the school year analyze the data and determine next step for our plan, such as gathering new and different types of data.

  10. WebQuest

  11. Website

  12. Why a website? Safe opportunity for participants to share about “negative” experiences Useful for teachers at different development levels Personal preference and comfort with technology SRPSD supports technology Adjustments can be made as process evolves Can be integrated in existing practices, such as PD days

  13. Data collection and analysis Three sets of surveys involving teachers in Saskatchewan Rivers coaching initiatives, including multiple choice and open-ended questions. We will look for emerging themes and patterns in the data. The intent is to use this analysis to help transform the coaching experience for all involved.

  14. Sharing Data will be shared among the following: All participants, both teachers and coaches Share with school division administration and school board trustees Individuals involved in the Saskatchewan Rivers School Divisions DreamCatcher Project
