  4. AP/Honors Course Definition • AP courses are college level courses, where students can earn possible college credit by taking the AP exam in May. The AP exam score does not influence the class grade • Honors classes are accelerated high school courses that run parallel to another GPHS course

  5. CHS/Running start Course Definition • College in High School Some courses have received approval to receive credit through EvCC. $180/5 credits • Running Start Students physically attend EvCC or Cascadia, credits apply to high school and college graduation.

  6. Advanced Placement Classes are: • Open to all students who wish to take rigorous courses. • Taught by teachers who are trained by the College Board. • Recognized by national and state universities and colleges for their curriculum and opportunity. • Preparatory for success on the AP Exam.

  7. What’s the cost of taking an AP course? • AP courses and exams are developed and scored by the College Board, a not-for-profit membership association dedicated to helping students connect to college success and opportunity. • There is NO fee to take an AP course.

  8. Advanced Placement Exams • Administered one time during the school year in May. • Students may receive three to six credit hours in most courses with a passing score on the exam of 3, 4, 5. • Passing test scores accepted nationally. • Fee is minimal compared to tuition costs.

AP Exam fees There is an $86 fee for each AP Exam, which the College Board uses to: 1) develop, print, ship, and score the exams 2) subsidize teacher training 3) develop classroom resources 4) support educational initiatives • For students with financial need, the College Board reduces the exam fee.
