  3. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES • How are Representatives selected? • Key Terms to Know • District – Congr. Dist., or area, with one rep. Ea. Dist. must have roughly same # of people. • Gerrymandering – drawing district lines to increase voting strength (Republican v. Democrat)

  4. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES • 435 Representatives in House • Proportional Rep. – based on pop. • 1 to 500,000 • Guaranteed at least 1 seat • How many reps would a state have if they had 2 million people?

SENATE • How is the Senate structured? • Leadership • Vice President – runs meetings • President of Senate – rarely attends debates • Only has a vote if there is a tie • President Pro Tempore (for the time being) • Temporary Pres. • fills in for Vice President if absent • 3rd in line for Presidency
