1. STRANGLER FIGNATIVE TREE STRANGLER FIG TREES PROVIDE MORE FOOD FOR MORE BIRDS AND MAMMALS THAN ANY OTHER SINGLE SPIECES OF TREE IN THE HAMMOCK. THIS IS BECAUSE OF THEIR SIZE AND ABUNDANCE OF SEEDS. BIRDS EAT THE SEEDS. BIRD DROPPINGS, WITH SEEDS INSIDE, OFTEN FALL INTO THE CREVICES OF TREES WHERE THEY GERMINATE OR GROW. THE TINY SEEDS GROW INTO VINELIKE PLANTS WHICH PUT ROOTS DOWN TO THE GROUND TO BECOME TREES. THEY MAY EVENTUALLY TAKE OVER THE HOST TREE AND KILL IT. THAT IS HOW THEY GOT THEIR NAME, ''STRANGLER FIG”.
