  3. It was preparation day Joseph of Arimathea goes to Pilate and requests the body of Jesus The soldier verifies that Jesus is dead The Grave The Account

  4. Jesus’ body is prepared for burial. Nicodemus assists. Jesus is buried in a new tomb near the location of His death, in a garden The Grave The Account

  5. Mary, the mother of Jesus and Mary Magdalene are present and see where Jesus is laid. The Grave The Account

  6. Matt. 27:62-66, the next day, chief priests and Pharisees request a guard. They are permitted to secure the site. The Grave The Account

  7. Observations from the grave • Jesus was truly dead! • Isaiah 53:9 – grave with wicked, but then with the rich

  8. Observations from the grave • Joseph of Arimathea – only mention of him! • Nicodemus – John 3:1-10 John 7:50, 19:39

  9. Observations from the grave • Both were members of the council, and disciples of Jesus, but secretly! • These events brought out their courage! • Why so long? What will it take for us to stand up for Jesus?

  10. Observations from the grave 3 Classes of men • No moral convictions • Moral convictions, no courage • Moral convictions and courage

  11. Observations from the grave • Sometimes it takes a devastating event to get us to stand up! • Joseph finally stood up • It is NEVER too late to stand up for Jesus! Are we ever guilty of hesitating to stand? Psa. 39:1-3 Jer. 20:7-11

  12. Observations from the grave Where did Jesus go when He died? • Hades, the place of the dead • Hell, gehenna – Matt. 25:46, 10:28, Mark 9:43-45

  13. Observations from the grave Where did Jesus go when He died? • Jesus went to Hades – cf. Eph. 4:8-10, 1 Pet. 3:18-20, Ac. 2:27,…Also Lk. 23:43 - paradise

  14. The grave was NOT the end! He arose, so will we!
