Setting the scene – The Truth about Residential Treatment... • Only 0.55% of people requiring treatment in the NHS system get a residential place – 76% receive prescribing treatment • Those who complete residential treatment are 7 times more likely to be drug free after 3 years (Prof Neil McKeganey) • ...and yet 25% of residential treatment centres closed between 2008-2010 – now only 1900 beds in UK

I was constantly fighting. I wanted this big “Switch!” and I would change…it didn’t happen like that. But gradually I got involved. Interested. Learning things I never even knew about. Not drinking. Positive ideas. Enjoying life. Gardening. Reading and writing. I stopped fighting my own ego, I learned how to stop fighting myself. • Recovery has given me freedom. In addiction every day was the same, a gradual progression downwards. Today life is exciting, I’m doing new things. Recovery is about possibilities, finding my potential.
