What is a graph? • A graph is a “snapshot” of the experiment • It should contain enough information that a person can look at it and clearly see the results
What is needed for a good graph? • All graphs should be clearly labeled • Axes should be labeled with both the quantity being measured and the appropriate units. Example – height (cm) • A graph title – Should be specific to the experiment. • Make sure to plot your points; for a line graph connect the points. • Numbers on the X and Y axis clearly labeled.
What goes where? • The independent variable goes on the x-axis (horizontal axis) – the line across • The dependent variable goes on the y-axis (vertical axis) --- the line up and down
