The Holocaust Timeline • 1933-1938: Regulations issued restricting all aspects of lives of German Jews • 1933 - Boycott of Jewish businesses • 1935 - Nuremberg Laws (defined “Jew,” German citizenship restricted) • November 9, 1938 - Kristallnacht, Nazis and Hitler Youth burn synagogues and loot Jewish businesses • November 1938 – All Jewish-owned businesses closed
1939-1941: Jewish property taken, Jews required to wear identification, established ghettos and labor camps • May 1940 – Auschwitz camp established • 1940/1941 – Warsaw ghetto and Krakow ghetto established • September 1941 - All Jews over 6 years of age ordered to wear identification • October 1941 – Deportations of German, Austrian, and Czech Jews from central Europe to ghettos in occupied eastern territory
1942-1945: Nazis carry out “Final Solution,” systematic deportations of millions of Jews to killing centers using poison gas • March 1943 - SS troops liquidate Krakow ghetto and deport Jews to camps • May 1944 - 440,000 Jews deported from Hungary • 1945 - Soviet and US forces begin to liberate camps
