Lying at the center of Beijing, the Forbidden City, called Gu Gong, in Chinese, was the imperial palace during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Now known as the Palace Museum, it is to the north of Tiananmen Square. Nowadays, the Forbidden City, or the Palace Museum is open to tourists from home and abroad.
The granite Monument to the People's Heroes is just at the center of the Tiananmen Square. Built in 1952, it is the largest monument in China's history. " The People's Heroes are Immortal " written by Chairman Mao is engraved on the monument. Eight unusually large relief sculptures show to the people the development of Chinese modern history. Two rows of white marble railings enclose the monument, simple and beautiful.
Mao Zedong Memorial Hall is at the south side of the Square. This Hall is divided into three halls and our dear Chairman Mao's body lies in a crystal coffin in one of the halls surrounded by fresh bouquets of various famous flowers and grasses.
Summer Palace lies 20 kilometers northwest of the center of Beijing. It is the largest imperial garden in existence in China. The whole Summer Palace covers an area of over 290 hectares including more than 3,000 buildings, such as halls, pavilions, towers and so on. Summer Palace used to be called the Garden of Clear Ripples. Main parts of Summer Palace: Summer Palace mainly consists of Kunming lake , Longevity Hill and the Long Corridor.

TRANSPORT ATION IN BEIJING • Beijing Transportation- There are many ways to get around Beijing besides walking or bike riding. Residents and visitors alike take the two subways in the city. One is called the Line One and the other is called the Round Line. They work from 5:30 am to 23:00. Transportation is also in the form of busses. The bus and trolley are available every five to ten minutes and run from 5 – 5:30 am to 22:00 or 24:00.
