Naming Thiols. Thiols are named by adding the suffix “thiol” to the parent hydrocarbon If there is a second substituent on the molecule, the SH group is indicated by its substituent name “mercapto.” Just like any other substituent, it is cited before the name of the parent hydrocarbon.
