  2. Today is World AIDS Day 2011

  3. The year of the 30th anniversary of the first AIDS diagnosis.

  4. 33.4 million people • like myself - • are now living with HIV.

  5. Who are they?

  6. They are young and old. Male and female.

  7. Black, white and brown. Rich and poor.

  8. Educated and illiterate. Urban and rural.

  9. They are, simply, human.

  10. They are you and me.

  11. AIDS has killed as many people as 25 tsunamis.

  12. Leaving hundreds of thousands of orphans.

  13. Enough is enough.

  14. We must end AIDS before it celebrates its 50th birthday in 2031

  15. Before it ends us.

  16. We each have a role to play.

  17. My fellow faith leaders and I are reaching out through our congregations

  18. To say “You can be SAVEd”

  19. S Through Safer practices, not just sexual, but also medical and social.

  20. S A Through Access to treatment and nutrition

  21. S A V Through Voluntary counseling and testing

  22. S A V E Through Empowerment and education.

  23. S A V E And through rejecting Stigma Shame Discrimination Denial Inaction and Mis-action

  24. We are urging all faith leaders to learn the S A V E approach.

  25. To teach it to their congregations.

  26. To use practical community action,

  27. Advocacy,

  28. And prayer.

  29. To overcome HIV and AIDS.

  30. To succeed, the spread of the SAVE message must outrun the spread of the virus

  31. So please pass this message on… SPREAD THE WORD, NOT THE VIRUS

  32. We each have a role to play.
